Your ultimate guide to throw pillows

Name a better feeling than coming home after a long day at school to a gorgeously made bed that's giving *all* the main character energy. If you're as enticed by this idea as we are, then stick around. Here's everything you need to know about glowing up your bed decor using your new BFF—throw pillows.

@withloveriversidecottage

Just like any relationship, the most essential factor to success is a good foundation. Depending on the size of your bed, your base layer is made up of 2-4 pillows. These are the standard pillows you sleep on and the ones that match your comforter. Before we add any fun throw pillows, we have to have our base.

Our next layer is big throw pillows—"pillows" being a broad term. This is the time to add your pillows that are basically the same size as your base layer and any larger stuffed animals (*cough, cough* Squishmallows).

There are two ways to go from here—you can add a longer rectangle pillow or 2-3 mid-size pillows. If your larger pillows are patterned, opt for solid mid-size ones, or vice versa. Another fun option for this step is a cylindrical pillow!

At this point, you can get creative. It's time for fun pillows! Try out circles and funky shapes, like flowers or mushrooms. You can also buy a bunch of fun options (or add them to your b-day list) and keep them on a rotation depending on the season. Stuffed animals fit into this category, too. Basically, this is where you let your personality and style shine. For unique finds, check out Etsy and Urban Outfitters
