Keep your health rezzies this year! 5 dos and don'ts to get ya there
DO make a detailed plan—and stick with it. Write out a schedule of when you’re going to work out and what exercises you’ll do on which days. Having a concrete goal makes it easier to stick to, and you’ll get into the habit of exercising regularly.
DON’T get mad at yourself if you mess up. Almost everyone slips up on their New Year’s resolutions, so don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day at the gym or snag a second slice of pie. Tell yourself you’ll correct your behavior right now—not tomorrow—and add in a run after school or opt for fruit instead of chocolate after dinner.
DO be reasonable with eating goals. Swearing off dessert is an extreme measure, and will only make you crave sugar even more. Instead, focus on something you can really stick to, like eating one dessert per day or having chips with one meal a week. That way when you do get your reward, it’ll taste even better.
DON’T compare your success to that of others. So your bestie lost 10 pounds like that. Or Selena Gomez’s biceps look way hot when she bares her arms. You’re not your bestie (or Selena Gomez, for that matter), so stop obsessing over their success. When you compare other people’s achievements to your own, somehow you always end up with the short straw. Instead, focus on personal bests, like beating last year’s mile time or acing a gymnastics move. Go, girl!
