How to convince your parents to let you redo your room

Ever feel like you're growing up but your room is still a total blast from the past? You're not alone. Everyone's style changes and your room should be a total reflection of you...but sometimes Mom and Dad can make changing up your safe space a little tricky. Check out these tips on how to sweeten the deal.

Talk to them.
You probs won't be able to give your room a makeover without talking to the parentals first. Make sure you tell them why you feel like it's time for a change and what you had in mind. They'll be more willing to listen if it seems like you thought this through.

Clean your room...and keep it that way.
No one is going to let you redo your crib without it being clean. Make your bed, put your clothes away and pick your soccer stuff up off the floor. Now keep it that way. If you show you are responsible, they'll be more likely to reward you.

Start out small.
Maybe you guys just can't do it all in one weekend. So start out small and ease Mom and Dad into it. Change your sheets and hang some new posters on the wall and your room will feel better in no time.

Be reasonable.
So, your parents are down for a new bedspread but aren't too keen on recarpeting your space? That's understandable. Try and compromise a little if needed.

Do it for you.
If your room is still pale pink from when you were first born but you're kind of over it, your parents should understand. Just be yourself when you're choosing your new stuff and don't try to be someone you're not or be too grown up. You want a space that reflects y-o-u, not the trendiest look you saw on Pinterest.
