Everything we know so far about Heartstopper season three

Cue the gold lighting, leaf emojis and cute convos featuring the iconic "hi"—Heartstopper season three officially has a premiere date.

After the first season, Heartstopper was renewed for *two* more, showing just how popular this LGBTQ+ series is. Season two was one for the books, but season three is sure to be filled with even more heart-stopping cuteness as Nick and Charlie deepen their relationship and learn more about themselves.

While we head into our seventeenth rewatch of the first two seasons, here's what we know about the upcoming third season (spoilers ahead!).

When's it coming out?

Netflix hasn't specified a date, but they've officially announced that season three will be premiering in October 2024 (aka seven looong months away).

Filming for season three wrapped back in December, and it seems like it will be a little longer until we see a trailer. Based on the schedule for the past two seasons, it's likely that we'll see first-look photos and the teaser sometime this summer, with the full trailer coming closer to the premiere.

OK, can I get a quick recap of season two?

Last season covered volume three of Alice Oseman's graphic novels. We saw the Paris trip, prom, Charlie standing up to Ben, Nick coming out as bisexual to more family members and classmates and Isaac realizing that he may be on the ace/aro spectrum.

Season two wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, though: We also saw Charlie opening up about his mental illnesses, Imogen being treated poorly by Ben, Darcy being kicked out of her home and Tao and Elle facing some friction in their budding relationship.

The season's final scenes were bittersweet, as the gang leaves Nick's house after their fun makeshift prom. Charlie tells Nick about how much damage his past bullying has caused, while Nick comforts him and makes him promise to reach out whenever he feels bad again. As Charlie walks home after this convo, he types out a DM to Nick confessing his love, but the scene cuts to black before we find out if he sends it.

What's season three about?

Season three is set to cover volumes four and five of Oseman's novels. Based on the first episode's title, we can safely assume that Nick and Charlie will be making some major strides toward saying the L-word.

We know there will be plenty of swoon-worthy moments between Nick and Charlie, but they also might be separated for a bit this season while Nick embarks on a college-visit road trip with Tara and Elle. Based on the fair rides shown in Netflix's announcement video, we can assume that it'll include the ending of volume five (when Charlie plays in a band with Sahar). If this season is anything like the books, we might see Charlie gaining some confidence while Nick figures out what he wants to do after graduating from Truham (plus lots of cute moments between the pair and the rest of the Paris Gang as they enjoy the fair!).

This season will take a deeper dive into Charlie's mental health, too. In volume four of the graphic novels, Charlie (with encouragement from Nick) turns to his friends and family for support when he is ready to begin healing. Season three will likely show some of the darker sides of his mental health journey.

This season will also feature some new faces: Oseman has revealed that Michael Holden (a character from Solitaire and the Heartstopper graphic novels) will join the crew. He's played by Darragh Hand and will be a new friend of Tori's (and perhaps even her love interest?). And Jonathan Bailey (aka Fiyero in the upcoming Wicked movie) is set to play one of Charlie's favorite authors.
