experience at New York Fashion Week has been one I will never forget. I had the
amazing opportunity to witness it all firsthand: A week of bright lights, gorge
models and Vogue-appropriate people gracing Lincoln
Center each day. Here are a few things I learned along the way.
Street style photographers can make anyone feel famous.
They’re there every time you get out of the cab and switch your foldable flats
for your Jimmy Choos (err, it was Guess via T.J. Maxx for me.).
with Max and Lubov Azria of BCBG!
Confidence is key. Since this was my first season
staying the entire week to watch shows, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
Should I be nervous to be sitting front row at Tibi when Solange Knowles and
Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller are sitting directly across from me? Eep!
(And, P.S. I’m only 14!)
the Man Repeller! I die.
Everyone is majorly talented. It’s tricky to pick
which shows I admired and adored the most, because these designers are all
talented in their individual ways. Whether it was W118 By Walter Baker, whom
everyone in the industry is still chatting about because of the fabulous ombre
jackets and glitzy headphones the models wore, or Kaelen, whose edgy neutrals
are chic yet oh-so easy.
and edgy stripes & florals at Kaelen. Looove those slouchy trousers.
Tons of outfit inspiration abounds. My new fave color
combo for spring will definitely be baby blue, pale pink and gorgeous gray.
Light and airy colors floated down the runways, and were used in ways that were
totally contemporary but still felt very old world. Lars Andersson made me wish
I could rock every single chunky knit sweater he sent down the catwalk (my
favorite essential every season) with long knit skirts.
Fashion is still surprising. Tons of layering and
long dresses took to the runway at Jenny Packham, while short harness dresses
at BCBG almost reminded me of medieval times. Usually we don’t see lots of
layers or structured pieces for spring, so it felt refreshing.
if you have the chance to see a show at Fashion Week in London, Milan, Paris or
New York, make sure to snatch up the opportunity, because I promise, you won’t
