How to get into the Halloween spirit (absolutely no trick-or-treating necessary)

Picture this: October 31 is coming up, and you can't contain your excitement about putting on your best costume to collect candy around your neighborhood. But then, your mom tells you that now that you're a certain age, you're too old to go this year (*gasp*).

If this scenario is a bit too relatable for your liking, don't worry! Whether it's because you've never been a huge fan of trick-or-treating or you've aged out of it, we've compiled a list of ways to get into the Halloween spirit that don't require leaving your house.

Decorate your house

Who said decorating is a job for just your parents? It's time to get creative and lend a helping hand by making your house look completely spook-tacular! Whether you opt for fake cobwebs across your front lawn or creepy skeletons in your windows, you'll have tons of fun. Pro tip: blast a Halloween-themed playlist as you do it to *really* get into the spirit.

Watch a spooky movie

We know, we know: scary movies aren't for everyone. But we have good news for you: there are loads of amaze movies out there that are spooky—but not too terrifying (Hocus Pocus, anyone?). Text your closest pals to come over, get some snacks and blankets and enjoy a night in.

Help hand out candy

Plot twist: handing out candy isn't only for adults! And guess what? It's a great way to have a social Halloween without planning a big party. Plus, you'll impress your parents and give them a much-needed break while getting to see all of the neighborhood children's awesome costumes!

Bake Halloween treats

We can *never* say no to baking. And if it's Halloween-themed? Say no more. Try your hand at ghost cookies, spider cupcakes or anything your heart desires. Just don't forget to snap some pics of your gorg treats (we have a feeling they'll be oh-so Insta-worthy).

Do a spooky craft

If you try your hand at a craft this Halloween, it'll be impossible to get bored. We'd recommend learning to knit a cute pumpkin, but the possibilities of what you can do are *truly* endless.
