Groovin' with Mitchel Musso

The 18-year-old cutie just wrapped up his nationwide tour (which lasted over four months) but, boy, has he been keeping busy.

While you’re not tuning into Mitchel (aka Oliver Oken on Disney’s Hannah Montana) on your iPod, catch him as Jeremy Johnson on the insanely popular series Phineas and Ferb, based on the quirky antics and inventions of two stepbrothers, every Saturday at 8 a.m. ET/PT on Disney XD.

We sat down with Mitchel and had him dish on everything from life on the road to why being a hip cartoon cutie isn’t so bad…

GL: What’s one song you love performing for your fans?
Mitchel: I love “Hey” because [everyone] knows every word. “Hey” comes on and even the parents are chanting. [There’s also] the new single “Shout It,” which I think is over-towering “Hey” right now. It’s actually with me and my older brother [Mason]. We wrote it together. I went on the road with [him and Metro Station a few] months ago and we’d perform the song every night. Then I’d go out and do “Shake It” with him. It was really, really cool.

Spill it, what are three things you brought on the road with you to remind you of home?
My phone, even though I think I went through probably six or seven Blackberrys in a four-month period.  Every other city, I’d be dropping my phone. I just can’t keep up. My computer, so I can make music, and my pillow. I bring my pillow everywhere.

If you could be any cartoon character, other than Jeremy, who would you be and why?
It’d be cool to be a Phineas or Ferb. I loved Kim Possible growing up—Ron the best friend, he’s hilarious.  It’d be cool to be [him].

Is lending your voice to an animated series a hard gig?
People always say whenever you go into voice-overs you have to add more energy and excitement because the cameras aren’t on you. I find it much easier. People go in their PJ’s, their sweatshirts. Plus, the guys who I work with are phenomenal, so it’s an easy job.

What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I remember I sang a song on Phineas and Ferb that was about puppies and flowers [which is on there]. That’s pretty embarrassing.

What about the one thing in your closet you can’t live without right now?
My puppy slippers. I wear them every night. I’m always wearing slippers. I swear, it’s the most comfortable thing to wear, right? I feel like I’m at home everywhere.

Psst…Catch an all-new episode of Phineas and Ferb this Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 a.m. on Disney XD.  In the new episode titled “Nerdy Dancin’,” Mitchel’s character, Jeremy, is convinced to dance on a local taping of the hit TV show Let’s All Dance ’Til We’re Sick. Unsure of his skills, Jeremy enlists the help of Phineas and Ferb to create a mechanical contraption that will allow him to mimic all the right moves.
