Project Go Green: Winner Announced!

Girlslife.com and Girls Gone Green teamed up to find the most inspiring teen green queen as part of Project Go Green!

You voted on our top ten eco-chicks and now we have a winner!
A big GREEN congrats goes to Sarah Jo L. We totally love her story...

“I have always been concerned about the environment and that we are not doing enough to protect our fragile Earth. Interestingly, I discovered through my research that those wanting us to start living and thinking “green” were not putting enough emphasis on providing something “green” that was tangible for kids to experience.

In a child's mind, thinking “green” and actually living “green” would be two very different things. Therefore, it has been my vision and belief that in order to change our perception of living “green,” it would be imperative to have a “green” friendly educational environment for children to experience.

Interesting enough, Dr. Seuss inspired me to take action. As a child, Dr. Seuss was the hero of my fantasy stories.

As a teenager, I have discovered that there is more to Dr. Seuss then poetry; there are messages. The Lorax is the most significant and speaks to me personally. “I speak for the trees,” said the Lorax, and that is exactly what I did. Thus, I created a project that showed my love and respect for Earth, the planet that we call home.

My project, The Vision is Green, specifically addressed environmental education. Following months of research and planning with a team of experts, I built an 850 sq. ft. compressed earth block (CEB), solar energized, zero carbon footprint, educational environmental center. Lorax Lodge has become the perfect setting to teach children about environmental issues and allows for continued environmental investigation. My building is amazing!”

And to say thanks for all her green efforts we’re sending her on a trip to Amelia Island Plantation—the perfect island paradise for any eco-chick. Check it out at AmeliaIsland.com!

Plus, this lucky chica and all of our top ten picks will receive products from the Teens Turning Green skincare line featured in the book, as well as their very own signed copy of the book!
