How to deal with the morning jitters

Picture this: you wake up before school ready to face the day...only to have your heart pounding and stomach tied in knots. Sound familiar? Anxiety in the morning is a pretty universal feeling. We've *all* woken up with those jitters at some point or another, whether on the morning of a geometry quiz or the school play. For some, this is a daily occurrence, and those nerves go on to set the tone for the whole day. The good news? You don't have to eternally wake up with that anxious energy. We've outlined just how to deal with the morning jitters.

Sip a soothing drink

Even on the days when you feel like you just couldn't possibly stomach the idea of eating breakfast, sipping a drink is always an option. Whether you go for hot mint tea or you're more of a matcha girl, drinking something warm can help ease your nerves. Plus, it'll give you something to look forward to when you wake up!

Meditate

When you wake up, thoughts about your French presentation or who you'll sit with at lunch today may be swirling through your head and clouding up your thoughts. The quick fix to this? Meditating! Click play on a video or simply sit in silence and just breathe for a few minutes before starting your morning routine.

Get some fresh air

Walking your dog or doing a circle around the block (or, if you're in a crunch for time, even just taking a few deep breaths as you head out to the bus) can work wonders for your mental health. A little bit of fresh air can go a long way.

Journal

Writing about whatever's on your mind when you first wake up can be a huge game-changer. Jot down a few words about how you're feeling—or, if you prefer structure, make a list of what you're looking forward to that day. If you notice anxious thoughts coming to the surface, write positive thoughts to challenge those negative ones. Trust us, you'll notice a *major* difference in how you feel.

Read a few pages

Reading can be the best way to get your mind off of what's in store for the day. Take a few extra minutes in the morning to let yourself relax and transport yourself into the world of your current book obsession. You deserve it!
