Awesome (and Affordable!) Costume Ideas

Of course ya want to look totally fab and festive this Halloween season, but sometimes it seems like the cost to look cute just, um, adds up quick. No worries, GL has you covered. All that you need for these fun, flirty looks is (mostly) already in your closet — just add one or two cheap accessories and you’ll be Halloween haute in no time.

Giddy Up
The cowgirl is a can’t-go-wrong classic for All Hallows Eve. Dig deep into your drawers and retrieve your fave summer staple — your jean short cut offs. (Psst, wear them with nude-colored tights underneath to keep snuggly warm this season.) Pair with a checkered button down shirt and cowboy boots. Nab a cowboy hat and trot off into the sunset.

Peace and Love
A ‘70s-inspired get-up is the perfect quick, yet cute choice. The first thing you’ll need is a super-wide pair of flared-leg jeans. If you don’t have any, you can always find a pair at Goodwill or ask a friend. Add a tie-dye t-shirt over top — a totally fun art project if you don’t have one already — and a great braided headband to wear across your forehead. To really kick this look up a notch, add some fringe pieces, like a vest or mocs.

Work It Out
Love leggings? Grab your faves and an over-sized white t-shirt or tank top. Over top, throw an old crew neck sweatshirt. (If you can, cut the neck wider so that it falls over one shoulder.) Add some white socks and your brightest pair of kicks. And what ‘80s-inspired look is complete without sweatbands? Snap up some cute ones from a sports store or American Apparel.
Country Crooner
She’s the most successful 20-year-old we know and her songs have been burnin’ up our iTunes playlist all year long. Yep, we totally love Taylor — and best of all, her look is super-simple to recreate with clothes you already have. All you need is your fave floral sundress from the summer and a pair of cowboy boots. Curl your tresses and be sure to add lotsa eyeliner to complete your look. Not a natural blonde? No problem. Wigs are all around this time of year. Tote around a fake guitar and you’re golden.
