5 upcoming book-to-screen adaptations to keep on your radar
Not sure what to watch now that your summer of binge-watching The Summer I Turned Pretty and Heartstopper is over? We know the feeling! But DW...new book-to-screen adaptations are in the works, and we're getting pretty stoked for these upcoming adaptations.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series will hit Disney+ on Dec. 20, 2023, and we could not be more excited to meet the new Camp Half-Blood crew. The series will follow 12-year-old Percy Jackson as he learns his true identity as a demigod. Rick Riordan was heavily involved in the script, so fans believe that it will be the best adaptation yet. The iconic trio includes Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood.
We Were Liars (TV series)
This book is mysterious. It’s twisting. And it’s coming to Amazon Prime Video! The TV series will follow the Liars as they do whatever it takes to keep their secrets quiet. It takes place on the Sinclair family’s private island, making it the perfect show for summer, but a release date has not yet been announced. E. Lockhart wrote the script for the series, and we can’t wait to see how her unique style transfers to the screen.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Movie)
The classic dystopian novel started trending again on TikTok and gave us a The Hunger Games renaissance we didn’t know we needed. Well, get ready to return to the arena, because the prequel is coming to theaters on Nov. 17! Rachel Zegler will play Lucy Gray Baird, and Tom Blyth will take on the role of young Coriolanus Snow. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will give us a deeper look into life in the Capitol and the creation of the Games. We loved the over-the-top fashion in the original movies and can't wait to see more iconic looks in the prequel.
Red Queen (TV series)
The moment we've been waiting for is finally here! Well… almost. The Red Queen TV series is in the works at Peacock but does not yet have a release date. While they wait, fans of the series have been picking actors for their dream cast: Amanda Stenberg, Zendaya or Samantha Boscarino have been the most popular picks to play Mare Barrow, and we have to agree they’d all be amaze in the role. Elizabeth Banks will direct and produce the series. In addition to these roles, she will play a supporting character in the series. And the best part? Victoria Aveyard, author of The Red Queen, will co-write the first episode.
My Lady Jane (TV series)
Royalty? Romance? A super fun retelling? Count us in! My Lady Jane is coming to Amazon Prime Video early next year, and we’re already planning our watch party. The eight-part series will be a historical reimagining telling the story of 16-year-old Jane, who is about to be crowned Queen of England. My Lady Jane will star Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey and Jordan Peters as King Edward.
