"Dear Carol, why am I feeling so blue?"
Lately, negative energy is flowing out of me in every direction. I hate everyone and everything, and I don't know why. It makes me cry, and I want it to stop. I want to be happy again, but it seems I never will be. I've talked with my mom about it, but it feels like I'm not getting through to her. What's wrong with me?
Lots of teens feel discouraged, and the vacation ahead (sleeping late! no homework!) might lift your spirits. That said, consider getting professional help. Even a few therapy sessions can make a big difference. Start by talking with another trusted adult, whether that be a different family member or a school counselor. Since your mom isn't hearing you, reach out to someone else. Just venting can be a great relief. Or call a hotline to receive anonymous support. One such resource is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which you can reach by dialing 1-800-273-8255 (as you might know from Logic's song). Another option is to talk to trained teens at the Teen Line in the evenings at 310-855-HOPE.
