New Town Blues

I'm moving at the end of the school year, and I feel terrible about it! I've lived in my town for my whole life. I compete in gymnastics and have had the same coach and gym team for 5 years, and the same best friend for 13 years.

I keep having dreams about coming back here for a weekend and no one can see me, and everyone who can see me can't remember me. I love my school and life here, and I really don't want to leave!

Tomorrow is my last gymnastics performance, and I'm scared I'll start crying. The stress about packing up and selling our house is running high in my house, and I can't cope anymore. I cannot leave. I just can't. Help me!

Hey babe, I totally understand how you're feeling. Moving can be really scary and stressful, but don't worry, you'll be fine in no time!

It's best if you talk about how you're feeling to your family and friends. Your fam is probably experiencing some of the same stress and feelings, so they can help you work it out if you let them know what's going on.

And if you want to cry, then do it! Crying isn't something you should be ashamed of. Leaving friends and an old house is totally a good reason to cry and to show emotion because you are attached to these people and places. Talk to your friends and tell them that you really hope they'll stay in touch with you. Saying goodbye to them and opening up will help you transition a lot easier.

After you move and are settled, make the effort to meet new people but keep in touch with your old friends, too. There's no reason why you can't talk to your BFF a couple times a week to stay updated on things going on at your old home. But don't get too involved with your old stuff. Give your new place a try!

You're obviously a cool girl that has friends so use your social skills. So go out there and be really outgoing to approach people in your new town. Before you know it you'll have friends all over the place!
