American Idol Recap: Round Three

The third and final group competing for the top 12 was def a mix of good and uh, not so good performances. But like every week so far there’s always a special few who totally remind us why we are so hooked on Idol!
Von Smith started the show off with the song “You’re All I Need to Get By” by Marvin Gay. He was super upbeat and had a crazy amount of charisma that totally lit up the stage. His vocals reminded the judges of Clay Aiken, which is for sure a compliment in my book! A-
Taylor Vaifanua went second singing “If I Ain’t Got You,” an Alicia Keys classic.  The beginning was a bit shaky, but she definitely started to get into the groove of it by the end. While the performance was good, I wasn’t jumping out of my seat and neither were the judges who wanted to see more of her personality. Another song might have done her more justice. B-
Alex Wagner-Trugman was third singing “I Guess that’s Why They Call It the Blues” by Elton John. While I totally find Alex to be endearing in that nerdy-loveable kind of way, his singing was def not high on my list. From the screeching to the crazy dance moves, the whole performance seemed to be super awkward. Simon seemed to be pretty confused by his growling as well. Poor Alex! C+
Arianna Afsar was next singing “The Winner Takes It All” by Abba. I have totally been a fan of the song since I first heard it performed on Broadway in the show Mama Mia, and unfortunately I think it should of been left there. Though I agree with the judges that Arianna is as adorable as a button, the song choice was way too serious for such a bubbly young girl. A more youthful song would have def been a better match! B
Ju’not joyner sings his rendition of the recent popular hit “Hey There Delilah.” His voice was super smooth and he totally made the song his own. I was skeptical at first, but he was able to pull it off. B+
Kristen McNamara took the stage with Tracey Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason”.  Her vocals were strong and powerful, putting her at the top of my list so far. While the judges liked her, I think they should have given her a little more credit than they did. I do, however, have to agree with the judges’ suggestion that a wardrobe change is def in order. With a little more of a defined style and a tad more confidence, Kristen could totally tackle that stage! A-
Nathaniel Marshall sings “I Would Do Anything for Love” by Meatloaf and I couldn’t help but giggle to myself. There’s no denying that he can hold a note, but I totally agree with the judges when they say he is more suited for a workout video. Between the bright colors to his signature headband, Nathaniel could no doubt be breaking a sweat doing jumping jacks. While he wasn’t one of my faves, his performance was def a memorable one. B +
Felicia Barton went next singing “No One” by Miss Alicia Keys and I was totally in awe.  Felicia is hands down a fave of mine and I’m ecstatic that she was able to return to the competition. Her voice was super powerful and I think she def deserves a spot in the top 12. The judges thought she sounded amazing as well (YAY)! A
Scott MacIntyre sings “Mandolin Rain” and I completely melted. His vocals were filled with passion and the way he connects to the music is for sure a tear jerker. Although not a fan of the song choice, Simon thinks Scott will sail through to the next round and I will definitely be keeping my fingers crossed! A-
Kendall Beard took the stage singing “This One’s For the Girls.” She’s absolutely adorable and super sweet, but I wasn’t blown away (probably due to the fact that I’m not a huge country music fan). Nevertheless, she without a doubt has that likeability factor as Simon would say, so she may get another shot. B+
Jorge Nunez sings “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” an Elton John classic. Jorge was completely on tune and his voice was totally powerful.  Every note he hit made me more and more of a fan. He has def become one of my new faves! A
Li’L Rounds closed the show with “Be Without You.”  She did an awesome job and the judges absolutely loved her. She was consistently on key and her voice was strong from beginning to end. She’s definitely on my top 5 list, but top 3 I’m no so sure about. A-

The top 3 who I think should make the cut are Jorge Nunez, Felicia Barton and Scott Macintyre. Though there is a lot of obvious talent, these 3 stuck out in my mind and I will def be singing their renditions in the shower over and over again. Who do you guys think should make it to the top 12?
