Pimple Problems

I have a terrible pimple problem. Every morning I look into the mirror and think about what everyone will say about me when they see me at school. My mom says it is just hormones and I know that is true but I want to know if there is anything I can do.

I wash my face twice a day and after I exercise but that is not really helping.  I am so jealous of all the stars because I have never really seen any of them with a pimple problem even when they were around my age. What can I do to get rid of my acne?

Hey babe,

I can totally relate to your sitch. When I was in middle school, I also had a lot of acne. I would cry and freak out when the zits wouldn’t disappear too. I tried all the creams, facials and even a homemade remedy that my mom made. Nothing worked! Then I tried switching up my daily routine and saw my skin get a li'l clearer (Whew!).

First, after I washed my face I made sure I wore non clogging moisturizer on my face. When you wash your face, your skin gets dry. Dry skin leads to extra oils that create zits all over your face. Moisturized skin is hydrated, soft and acne free.

Next, I nixed my usual after-school Cheetohs and ate more apples, bananas and carrots. Veggies, fruits, nuts and fish are really good for your skin. Have you ever heard of the saying, “You are what you eat”? Totally true when it comes to your skin. Also, drink more water and less soda. Soda, tea and coffee are diuretics, meaning that they take water out of your body. You need that water to replenish your body and to keep your skin silky and smooth.

Since you're able to get the bad oils out of your body when you sweat, it's great that you exercise. It’s not great that you feel like comparing yourself to stars. Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and yes, even everyone's fave, Taylor Swift, all have bad skin days. They usually plop some acne cream or concealer on those nasty areas. Famous peeps have makeup artists who can professionally cover up their breakouts. Plus, most of the pictures that you see of your fave stars in magazines are airbrushed so that the stars only APPEAR to have flawless skin. Stars are JUST like us, they have acne issue, too!

Remember that beauty isn't skin deep. I bet there are famous people who would be really jealous of the stuff that you have such as an amazing BFF who gets you LOLing all the time, your A+ average in Algebra and your killer sense of style. Focus on your inner beauty and soon that confidence will have everyone looking way past any pesky pimples.

Hugs, Sherryn D.
