Everything we know about The Princess Diaries 3 so far
Disney just announced that The Princess Diaries 3 is officially in the works! Here's everything we know so far about the third installment of our fave nostalgic series.
It's been 18 years since our last trip to Genovia. While there have been many rumors over the years, "better late than never" is the feeling of fans who have been waiting for this announcement. Ofc, as Queen Clarisse would say, "A queen is never late, everyone else is simply early."
As of now, the production is still in the early phases of the script-writing stage. It is said to be a continuation of Mia Thermopolis' story, *not* a reboot, which is great news for fans who have been wondering what's been going on in Genovia since The Royal Engagement.
Spoiler alert: The second film ended with Mia's coronation. While we still don't know exactly what will take place in the third film, we hope to see how Mia has been handling her time on the throne.
Unfortunately, no cast members have been announced yet. Even Anne Hathaway, who played Princess Mia in the first two films, has not yet been confirmed. However, back in October, she did tell Entertainment Tonight, that she "would more than entertain" the idea of a third movie. In fact, she said she was "pulling for it."
As for what other original cast members might be making a return? Anne Hathaway expressed interest in working with Julie Andrews (Queen Clarisse, Mia's grandmother) again. She told ET, "If there's any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work." In June 2022, Andrews told ET herself, "It depends what the story is, and if they can come up with something, that would be wonderful, but if not, there will be other things."
In an interview with Extra in Mar. 2022, Chris Pine also expressed some interest in making a return: "If it's in Los Angeles, I'll be there." Pine played Mia's love interest, Nicholas Devereaux, in the second movie, and fans have been invested in the relationship ever since.
And what about Lilly, Mia's best friend, played by Heather Matarazzo? It's true we don't know much about the cast list, but we're hoping for appearances from all of our fave OG characters from the 2001 release and its 2004 sequel.
The Release Date
You must be wondering by now: When are we going to see The Princess Diaries 3 on our screens? Unfortunately, Disney hasn't announced a time frame yet. So while there might be months until the movie is released, we'll just wait here until we have more news...
