You don't like him.
This might seem like common sense, but it's def worth considering. Forget what your friends or your fam thinks and make a decision based on your own feelings. So what if your mom thinks he's polite or your friends think he's cute? It's your decision, not anyone else's. If you're not feeling it, it's donezo.
You're taking the hint.
If you get a vibe that he's just not that into you during date #1, don't sweat it. This is part of going on first dates, sometimes things don't click. If neither of you suggests going out again, then just leave it at that. Why pursue something with someone who is less-than crazy about ya? It's not worth it.
He transforms into an awkward turtle.
The date went great but then he starts ignoring you or acts like it never happened. Well, that's not cool. No second date happening here. If he makes you feel weird about the fact that you went out, it's time to move on.

He's workin' the word clues.
If you like him and he suggests that the two of you should go out again sometime, excellent. If you sense that he really means it, do make plans to hang out in the future. It's okay to get specific and ask him what he'd like to do (for your second date!). Clarifying plans now will help avoid getting lost in textlation later.
You're still getting to know each other.
The first date went well, but you feel like you still have a lot to learn about this guy. No worries, just sched a date #2. This gives you more time to think about how you feel and you get more time together. Perf.
The first date was a fairytale.
Sometimes things work out splendidly. If you and your date are both delighted with date #1, of course a second date is in order. Have fun!  We hope you celebrate with a li'l happy post-date dance partay in your room.
