Dear Carol,
I have a crush on this boy, but I only see him at fencing. Fencing is once a week, and we aren’t allowed to talk to each other. But we’ve made eye contact. I don’t know if that counts. I am the only girl and the only person his age in fencing. This is my first major crush and I don’t know what to do. I’m 11.

Eye contact totally counts. And 11 is a fine age for a first crush. Yours is not an “action required” situation, so don’t feel that you have to do anything. Just keep fencing and talking with your eyes. I bet you two will get to know each other better soon.
