Host a Patriotic Party!

GL’s fabbin’ up your Memorial Day weekend with fun and festive ideas!

Decorations
It’s all about the red, white ‘n’ blue for Memorial Day. Check out your local party store – they’ll have tons of inexpensive decorations to turn your backyard from plain to patriotic! Pick up some red, white ‘n’ blue paper streams and nab a few flags to line your driveway, or plop them in a vase as a centerpiece for your table. Running low on change? Make your own! Just remember 13 stripes and 50 stars!

Looking for other festive ways to decorate? Stars are totally cute and can make your party sparkle! Cut out star shapes in all diff sizes using a sturdy material, like poster board, cover with a glue stick and dip in silver or gold glitter, sequins, anything that shines bright! Dangle them from nearby trees, place underneath a clear tablecloth, get creative!

Food
Memorial Day is the kickoff to summer, so stick to everyone’s warm weather fave: BBQ. Ask your ‘rents if they can work the grill to make delish BBQ staples like burgers and hot dogs. But buns and dogs can’t stand alone. It’ll be your job to cook up tasty sides with BBQ classics, like baked beans, potato salad, corn on the cob and mac ‘n’ cheese.

For dessert, whip up a super yummy strawberry shortcake. All you need are strawberries, whipped cream and biscuits. Start by slicing the biscuits in half. Take one half and top with strawberries and whipped cream. To finish, plop the second half right on top. Dig in!

Fun ‘n’ Games
Can’t see the fireworks this Memorial Day? Have your own…well, almost your own! Check out your local supermarket or party supply store and pick up some sparklers for you and your guests. Ask your ‘rents first just to make sure that they’re OK with it!

Relay races are another totally fun activity to do with your friends and fam. Put everyone into teams and start competing in activities like an egg toss, a potato sack race and a hula hoop contest. And make sure you have a prize for the winning team! You can make gold, silver and bronze medals and have a ceremony at the end just like the Olympics! To make it extra goofy, play the National Anthem.

Wanna make your party extra memorable? Tell your guests to wear patriotic costumes! Not sure what to wear? Dress up as presidents, first ladies, the Statue of Liberty, or whatever else comes to mind when you're thinking about the great US of A! Make sure to give out prizes for the best costumes! Don't forget the camera though! You'll wanna make sure to take tons of pictures that you and your besties can laugh about later!

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!
