Dad's moving away...

My mom and dad aren't getting along very well. My dad is in the Air Force and he is thinking about moving to Arizona for the job. My mom has already rented a house closer to my new school but my dad says he is gonna leave! He just got back the results for an application he sent. They said they would love for him to come.

I don't want my dad to leave because I have so much in common with him and I'm gonna miss him a lot. I want him to stay, but my mom said there is nothing I can do. I want to know if I can do anything and what might help me cope without him.

Hey chica,

It's never easy to have one of your 'rents far from home. My dad lives in a different country and I can totally understand how you're feeling. You might not be able to control the whole sitch, but you can definitely find ways to ease the pain.

First of all, always remember that your dad is still the same person. He may be moving away, but he will be there for you when you need him and he loves you just the same. That will never change and you can ALWAYS keep your relationship with your dad special.

Another thing? You've got so many ways to stay connected! Emails, phone calls, and the best of all...video chat! You'll be able to see him and talk about anything you want. It might not feel the same at first, but you'll totally feel like he's right there with you.

Lastly, let your dad know how you feel. Write him a heartfelt card, make a collage with special pictures of you two or write him a poem. No matter if he ends up moving away or not, he'll always know for sure that you care. So cherish the moments you have with him and don't let this bring you down. It'll be hard at first, but remember that you'll never be alone and he will always have your back wherever he is.

Love,
Jeannie L.
